RAAM

In June 2010, four middle-aged club cyclists, including Sharp Managing Director Paul Molyneux, are going to take on one of the biggest endurance challenges in the world of cycling. They will compete in the Race Across America (RAAM) and attempt to ride from one coast of America to the other (West to East) in under 7 days.

A total of 3014 miles, at an average of 430 miles a day, this race is 30% longer than the Tour De France and unlike the Tour there is only one stage! The team will ride for 24 hours a day, passing through 14 states and climbing for a total of over 100,000 feet in pursuit of the challenge.

RAAM is more than just a bike race. It is about ordinary people realising dreams, journeying into their hearts and souls, about being the toughest of the tough and succeeding through camaraderie and teamwork. Over the next 12 months the team will have to undergo testing, training, team building and all the detailed preparation needed just to get us to the start line...and then the difficult part begins!

The real beauty of the RAAM is that in pursuit of this personal challenge we can also take on another challenge on behalf of a charity that matters not just to the RAAM team but to everyone with a man in their life.

The Prostate Cancer Charity is a charity that works to promote awareness and treatment for prostate cancer which is one of the most common types of cancer in men in the UK but yet has very little visibility and funding.

The driving force behind the determination of the team to complete the RAAM is to help raise awareness and much needed funds for this cause. Combined with the other effort that is part of the Sharp4Prostate initiative, the team aim to raise a minimum of £50,000.
